A plethora of restaurants adorn the coveted 14th St in Northwest DC - Logan Circle, however, there has not been an Indian restaurant in that neighborhood just yet.
Pappe (meaning brother) breaks that mold, and it delivers it well. It is trendy and casual, and yet the food the traditional. The restaurant focuses primarily on Punjab cuisine of India with a few dishes from south India.
I first visited this restaurant during its opening week, so my observations may not be accurate. I thoroughly enjoyed the decor and the artwork at this restaurant. A couple of guys who own restaurants in the suburbs have come together and opened this restaurant in perhaps the priciest real estate in Washington, DC. Kudos!
My friend and I got seated at the bar, as we had no reservations and we just decided to walk into the restaurant after pride parade. The best part about this restaurant is its staff. The staff I was told represents the diversity of DC, and they are super friendly and accommodating. I particularly liked the lady at the bar (and now I forget her name), she is so sweet and joyful.
The curry dishes (we got Malabar Chicken Curry and Fish Chettinad) were both good, however, I highly recommend Malabar Chicken Curry. It is just the way it should be. Most curries are less than $20 and they come with bread. This place is a great spot for delivery/pick up.
I am not a big fan of their flatbread, they need to work on it. Finding staff that can make good bread can be difficult and one must remember that Indian cuisine, whether be it north Indian or south Indian, is huge on bread. The jaljeera spicy drink was delicious however Mango Lassi needs a little sweetness (then again, I have a sweet tooth).
There were no desserts as it was the opening week.
Also, don't forget to check out their bathroom, it is pretty!
